Academy for the Arts Offers New Hip Hop Dance Classes

The Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts is offering new hip hop dance classes for students of all ages. Each class runs for eight weeks and meets on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. All classes will meet in Room 314 of Wallman Hall and will begin the week of Sept. 7.

            Following is information on available classes:

  • Lil’ Jam Session: Taught by Corinthia Rilko, 5:30 to 6 p.m., ages 3 and 4 Tuesday, $110 (separate $5 materials fee). This class is designed for kids who are ready to explore movement. Dancers will learn short combinations and the basic fundamentals of hip hop and tumbling while developing social skills, confidence and personality.
  • Junior Performance Hip Hop: Taught by Corinthia Rilko, 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, ages 5 to 13, $150. This is a beginner level class where students will learn the fundamentals of hip hop while working on performance skills.
  • Young Adult Hip Hop: Taught by Corinthia Rilko, 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, ages 14 to adult, $150. This beginner level class will allow students to master the fundamentals of hip hop and performance skills while learning the hottest and newest choreography.
  • Boogie Boys Dance Class: Taught by Cameron Williams, 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, ages 5 and older, $120. This class is an all-boys class designed to get boys in tune with their own bodies while learning some fun routines and staying active.

All dancers will have a performance opportunity in the Fall Gala at the end of the fall term. The proper attire for dance classes is comfortable clothes that allow movement, no dresses, skirts or open-toed shoes. Sneakers or combat boots are acceptable.
