Fairmont State University joined the state of West Virginia in mourning the loss of a Falcon legend, men's basketball coach Joe Retton on Oct. 10, 2018. Today, Retton’s impact was recognized on the floor of the West Virginia Senate when Senate Minority Leader Roman Prezioso, D-Marion, introduced a resolution to commemorate his life and legacy.
For 87 years Marion County, West Virginia was blessed by his presence.
Wednesday morning, however, legendary athlete and coach Joe Retton, who led Fairmont State University's basketball teams to national prominence in the 1960s and '70s, passed away.

As part of the Homecoming 2015 Sesquicentennial Celebration, the traditional Homecoming Parade for Fairmont State University, sponsored by ACE Hardware, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in downtown Fairmont.
The Office of Student Activities has selected legendary Fairmont State basketball coach Joe Retton as parade marshal.
