FAIRMONT – With the start of the 2016 Rio Olympics rapidly approaching, marking the first time rugby sevens will ever be played as an Olympic event, two of the major difference makers for the squad from the United States are former Division II athletes.

The Fairmont State Alumni Association is hosting welcome reception for Head Coach Jason Woodman as the Fighting Falcons prepare to kick off the 2013 football season.
Woodman and his staff will be available to meet and greet Falcon Fans during the event scheduled for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Erickson Alumni Center. Admission is free and open to the public. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be available.
The Fairmont State University Fighting Falcons football locker room has received a much-needed facelift, and on Saturday, Oct. 13, the newly renovated Cava Family Football Locker Room was dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Made possible by the support of James and Laura Cava and Dan and Machelle Cava, the Cava Family Locker Room has been transformed into a place where all players can comfortably meet and keep their belongings safe.
In just a short amount of time, the way in which people watch their sports has changed with technology. Once upon a time, you had to settle for whatever was programmed on television. Then, a few select games were streamed online, although the quality wasn’t much better than the Zapruder film. Now, though, almost every professional game or major college sport is available on the web and delivered in a way that competes with the quality you get on your television.
Fairmont State University is hosting another round of its 2011 Community Engagement Initiative on Thursday, Oct. 6, as the Falcon football team plays host to Bowie State at 7 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field. Gates open at 6 p.m.
